"Voldemort: Origins of the Heir" is a non-profit fan film, inspired by the Harry Potter universe. The idea was born while re-reading the sixth book of the saga, Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. We wondered:

What made Tom Riddle become Voldemort? What happened in those years, and what really went down at Hogwarts when he came back? There are some clues in the books which have not been transposed at all in the movies, but a lot goes unspoken. This is the story we want to tell: the rise of the Dark Lord before Harry Potter and his first demise.

“Voldemort: Origins of the Heir” - an unofficial fanfilm is out

The fanfilm was released on Youtube on the 13th of January.
Voldemort: Origins of the Heir is a dark fantasy film directed by Gianmaria Pezzato with Stefano Prestia as executive producer, and Michele Purin as cinematographer. It is an unofficial fan-made prequel to the Harry Potter film series, created by Pezzato and Prestia. Italian locations and production were used for the first non-commercial fan-film about the early life of Voldemort, the iconic antagonist in the Harry Potter fantasy series written by J. K. Rowling. The film was made with a 15.000€ fundraised budget. The official language of the film is English.

Two trailers have already been released on Facebook and Youtube, exceeding 50 Million total views around the world. The fanmovie takes the audiences back to the Harry Potter universe, with a twist: the main character this time is Voldemort and the story is about what led him to become the Dark Lord.

The Film

"Voldemort - Origins of the Heir" is about the early life of Voldemort, the powerful dark Wizard. We believe Harry Potter and Tom Riddle are opposite sides of the same coin/in many ways, a mirror of each other, whose actions are shaped by their choices. This concept is what inspired the making of Voldemort: Origins of the Heir. In the film we will find some scenes which have never been on cinema screens, but are already known by the readers of the Harry Potter saga. Among them, the homicide of Hepzibah Smith. The film also presents new characters, such as the Heirs of other Hogwarts houses.

The idea of the film comes from Gianmaria Pezzato (director and screenwriter) and Stefano Prestia (executive producer), with the intention of showing the psychological complexity of Tom Riddle before he became known as Voldemort. The movie follows the part of his life that has mostly been left out in the official movies of the saga.
